Years in the courtroom have given Mark a unique perspective on the gravity of judicial decision-making and he has witnessed, first hand, how a judge’s decision can affect the lives of those who stand before the Court. Mark possesses sound judgment and has the courage and respect for the law to apply it decisively, consistently and independently.

Mark has been an Assistant Cook County Public Defender for 20 years and has tried hundreds of cases before judges and juries. He has extensive experience in both criminal and civil law matters. He has worked with experts in numerous areas of the law, including cutting-edge forensics and DNA.

Mark also is a leader and teacher in his field. He has supervised and trained attorneys, investigators, paralegals, law students and law interns. He has been involved in advancing courtroom procedures; in Cook County, he spearheaded an initiative to update and automate the use of electronic data and graphics in trial presentations. As a judge, he will continue to look for new ways to improve the justice system.

Among colleagues, adversaries, clients and the judiciary, Mark is known as honest, hard-working and always professional. The Lake County Bar Association rated Mark “Highly Recommended” to be a judge upon first review.
